Submitting your website to DMOZ. Seo Philippines Alexis Aspi
One important step for search engine optimization is submitting your website to DMOZ, this will help the web page to have its presence known by the search engine. DMOZ is also called Open Directory Project or ODP.Unlike search engines DMOZ is not robot-driven, but is handled by people, so that would make it a large human edited directory of the web
Things to consider in Submitting your website to DMOZ
Step 1) Provide your full contact details, not only your email address, especially if your website is geared for selling as your credibility and honesty will be tested. Giving out your personal information then is one of the first steps.
Step 2) Avoid spamming the directory. This means that you only have to submit your webpage once. Unless, your website is big and you have different categories, you can submit them. In any case, DMOZ edits submission by order of dates submitted so you may wait for a while for your other page to be edited
Step3) The website must be original and having new content. This is to avoid rejection since old contents may count your site to be a mirror site and thus, will be rejected. Another thing to consider is if the web page is an affiliate, it should contain new materials to warrant an approval.
Step4) Typo error should be avoided at all costs, remember that these editors are human and thus will somehow be affected (irritated) if they encounter typo errors. Make your web page as professionally written and carefully built.
Step5) Keep complete records of the submitted website to DMOZ, whether approved or rejected, this includes the date, the category on which it was submitted as well as the editor who edited them. Step6) Proper category for the website must be selected and carefully chosen. If somehow, the category is unsure, try to check the web for those with relevant content. Again, these editors are human and the process will be quicker if u have given them many information regarding your web page, unlike google or yahoo which the robot can do the editing and thus decide as to what category your website should be.
Step7) Always contact DMOZ in the proper channel. This would mean that if your website have an assigned editor by that category, that editor’s name will most likely appear on the form. This editor then can be sent message as to the status of the submitted website to DMOZ.

Link building is one of the major strategies of “off page SEO”. SEO is built up of two different types of SEO on page SEO and off page SEO. Link building is the number one strategy in off page SEO which helps to build popularity, increase search engine rankings and helps to improve pagerank. This is why link building is important.Link building is the process of increasing the amount of overall links that are directed to your website, these can either be internal or external links (usually made up of both internal and external links). External links are also called backlinks and are links from another website (generally within the same market) to your website.
The more important the website that is linking to you is the better and stronger the external links (backlinks) are. The importance of a website is created through using the Google algorithm and without confusing you too much i will say that the algorithm takes many factors in to account, including domain/website age, pagerank, SERP (Search engine results page) rankings and much much more.

Robots.txt file: How to benefit from it most
n the web, you will find many types of websites in which you can get the information that you need. You can simply search the web engine and there are already lists of website pages that may match your needs. Anyone can also have their own site and put all the necessary contents that they want to share to other people. However, there are a number people who make some web pages but they do not intend that it would be search for others. Thus, they use the robots.txt file.One may have some websites in which they do not want others to view it because it is not yet finished or that there are a few information that may be irrelevant to most people. Thus, you can use the file and keep others in opening the webpage.
The search engine crawler generally follows this robots exclusion protocol or robots.txt file if it is present in the server. The main use of this file is to determine which sites or pages in a website are to be accessed by the search engine and which are not. This will keep the Web robots from crawling in certain pages that may have sensitive contents that is not intended for other viewers. However, this file only prevents the access into the web pages but it does not keep the site from being indexed.
There are some people who tend to have problems when their sites are not listed in the search engine. When this is the case, most blame the wrong use of the robots.txt file. The file prevented the users why certain sites are not listed in the search engines or some cannot access the whole site. When you fixed the problem regarding the file, the site will then be indexed and it will soon have a better traffic.
When a person does not use the file correctly or put codes the wrong way, there result would definitely the other way around. Thus, they should be able to know the use of the file and how it should work according to your needs. There are some people who want their website to be viewed by others so they must not use the robots.txt file. However, for some who may want certain unfinished or confidential pages not to be indexed, the proper use of the file will be a big help for them.
There may be a number of problems with the robots.txt file since there is no way that you may be able to stop other sites to link into your site. However, in some way, the robots.txt file help in making the person protect the search engines from gaining access to some web pages or your whole website but the site is still available, only not from the search engines. Still, a careful use of the file should be done so that the results will be according to what you want.

Popularity type of Search Engine Ranking…
There are many factors that effect Search Engine Rankings. If we take away the site’s content, what things would make a site show up on the Search Engines? We have defined 3 factors of major importance for today’s Search Engines.
Link Popularity, Social Popularity, Industry Popularity and Click Popularity, these are all current factors in ranking websites in the major Search Engines.
Link Popularity has been a primary factor since the 2004 Google algorithm change coined “Florida”. Link popularity means the number of links coming into a website from web pages. There are quality factors in the algorithm that also determine the amount of PageRank, that any website will get from a specific link or a sitewide link.
PROS: Offers a voting system based on numbers and quality factors.
CONS: Can be manipulated through trading and buying of links as a commodity.
Social Popularity is a measure of social sites like bookmark sites, news sites and media sites. Social popularity gives the algorithm a potential voting system by getting active internet users a link popularity voting system that develops quickly.
PROS: Offers a way to judge quick SEO campaigns.
CONS: Causes recycled content on the biggest blogs that are after traffic rather than quality content. Currently the biggest bloggers and famous bloggers are guilty of recycling stories to get 10 posts a day.
Industry Popularity is seldom spoken of today. It is nothing new, it is used as a measurement of relationships similar to the methodology of “Hilltop“. It is based on industry sites and the linking between them, commonly found in blogs. This is a popularity system measured by how many peer sites (related sites and blogs) link to the target site and pass on link popularity.
PROS: Offers industry popular sites.
CONS: Easy to manipulate especially with industry blogs that take advantage of the terminology. For instance the term “BlogRoll” means you can link to anyone, but most of the time it creates “friend spam”.
Click Popularity is more known from the failed Search Portal “Direct Hit” the model was too easily manipulated and has since become taken over by Pay Per Click measurements. Measuring clicks is important for advertising and has become a highly advanced system since the Search Engines main source of income is Paid Advertising. A click on a link counts as a vote and would boost rankings.
PROS: Helps find useful information that people want to read.
CONS: Basis of clicks in on a small description, sites further down an index would never gain rankings even if deserved as most searchers will not go down the results pages.
The emphasis in today’s Search Engines is almost entirely on one form of popularity or another. As with any Search Engine Optimization campaign, the importance lies within the completeness of the campaign. Using all factors and creating a buzz worthy popular website will make the difference to anyone’s goals.
